HP's new UMPC 2133 hotness to run VIA, not Penryn?

If that new HP Compaq 2133 is hitting your ultraportable sweet spot, there's more news on that front to drool over. UMPC Portal has word from a supposed industry insider that the computer is not running an Intel chip as previously suggested, but instead will rock the range of VIA processors. That means the computer could fight it out with Eee PC in the low-end with a C7 processor, or adopt one of those upcoming Isaiah chips and duke it out with Penryn ultraportables. If this is true it'd be a big win for VIA, and consumers might just get some budget-friendly excitement out of the deal as well.

MyRacer MF101 handheld does gaming first, media second

First things first -- Americans can keep dreaming on this one, as we're looking at yet another curious creation that probably won't wander far beyond the borders of South Korea. MyRacer's MF101 handheld can certainly play nice with a few audio / video formats AVI, MP3, WMA, WAV, JPEG and BMP, for starters but the control pad flanking each side of the 2.4-inch 320 x 240 resolution display gives away its true calling. Reportedly, it sports a Flash-based interface that enables users to sort through titles on their SD card or the 1GB of internal memory, but details are fuzzy on what games it'll actually play. Still, doesn't seem like a half bad investment for ₩99,000 ($104) if you're in the area.

Microsoft and Nokia in talks over Windows Mobile

We got a preemptive taste of what something like this might feel like with that
banged up impostor-phone, the "Nokia" N94i -- but now things are getting real... ish. According to Microsoft's mobile communications business international marketing director (phew) John Starkweather, Redmond is in talks with the folks from Finland about getting Windows Mobile onto Nokia handsets. "They obviously have significant investments in Symbian but there are a lot of places where we have significant synergies and we would love to see the day where those synergies would extend completely with Windows Mobile," said Starkweather, though he couldn't say when or if any agreement will be met. "We work closely with Nokia and we would love to have them go all the way," Starkweather said. "It's something we talk about all the time." Hold up John, we think before you go all the way, Nokia's gonna want a ring on that finger... do we hear wedding bells?
